ReStartSMEs does not slow down. The second Hack4reSTART event in Stuttgart took place on 22-23 March at CODE_n. The event was a part of the web3week organised for the first time by bwcon GmbH in cooperation with the Swiss Business Hub Germany. Both events focused on the blockchain concept and its potential use in contemporary organisations, while at the same time wondering whether it is just a hype. Just as with any other technology, it should be ensured that it is the optimal tool for the respective need or use case.

During these two days, participants had a great chance to become a bit more familiarised with the concept, also thanks to a diversity of formats for knowledge transfer like a design-thinking workshop for company representatives to ideate blockchain use cases for their business, an actual Blockchain Hackathon as well as thematic sessions which included startup pitches, matchmaking, use case presentations inter alia on how to create and govern token-based business models, how Blockchain enables usage-based payments in manufacturing and how supply chain challenges can be solved with the help of technologies like blockchain?

At the Blockchain Hackathon two industry-focused challenges were submitted: 1) a blockchain-based predictive maintenance system and a solution that 2) enables transparent, accurate, and standardized sustainability reporting in supply chains, addressing the challenges of visibility, data accuracy and completeness, standardization, and credibility.

Participants interested in European open funding opportunities for their businesses and projects had the opportunity to attend online or on-site “Equity-free Public Funding Opportunities for Deep-Tech SMEs and Startups” by Mayte Carracedo, Partner & Chief Development and Partnerships Officer at Funding Box.
